AMMONITE FOSSIL shells whose closest living relative is the chambered nautilus. I hand-picked these beautiful jewelry-grade pairs from a dealer who goes to Morocco, the "ammonite capital of the world" to get them. Their markings have an awesome metallic sheen from the hematite replacement, with ground colors of mauve, pink, peach, apricot, gold, ivory and silver-gray. Some of these have "filigree" effects, where the soft stone dissolved, leaving the hematite webbing. Some have markings so clear, the segments are delineated by a double line. Matched pairs are $4, singles for $2.50. |
