Collage (leather, beads, paper, feathers) and clay sculpture Malili is the Indonesian spirit of the rain forest, who protects the small animals and the plants found there. The natives carve stylized wooden masks painted with rain forest scenes to honor her. Several of her small friends from the Indonesian forests are represented in this mask: one of the many bird of paradise species, a tree-dwelling tarsier, the giant green frog, a swallowtail butterfly, and a young fishing cat.
